Charles Edward Charleston Sr., 84 died on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, OH. He was born on November 29, 1936, in Wrightsville, GA to Hattie Mae Charleston. Charles grew up in Xenia, OH, graduated from East High School, and attended Ohio University. He retired from Vernay Laboratories in Yellow Springs, OH, and last worked as a supervisor. He worked for Morris Bean as a production operator, Waste Management as an auditor, and Kramer Graphics as a driver. Charles was an active member of St. John A.M.E. and United A.M.E. Church until his health declined. He used his gifts while serving on Missionary Society, Trustee Board, Lay Organization, Usher Board, and Transportation Ministry. He also traveled around the Third District AME church as God’s Comedian Ambassador. Charles was preceded in death by his grandmother Eliza Charleston, his mother Hattie Charleston, his brothers Jewel Thomas, and Freddie Charleston. Charles leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Charlesetta Charleston; his children: Billie (Jonathan) Rivers of Houston TX; Pamela Howard of Crestview, FL; Rhonda Bryant of Midway Park, NC; Iva (Kenneth) Greene of Warner Robins, GA; Charles (Rita) Charleston, Jr of Xenia, OH; Genna (Kevin) Caldwell of Xenia, OH; Frannita (Gerald) Porter of Xenia, OH; Dawn Echols of Trotwood, OH; Kristie (Dante) Charleston-High of Xenia, OH; 17 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives. Services for Charles Charleston, Sr will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020, at United A.M.E. Church 286 E. Church St Xenia, the Rev. Dr. John E. Freeman officiating. Visitations will be at 11:00 AM until the time of service which will be at 12 noon. Interment will be held at Cherry Grove Cemetery following services. Social distancing protocol will be observed, and a face mask will be required. Arrangements entrusted to Porter-Qualls-Freeman Funeral Home.
