Charlesetta “Charlie” Juanita Wakefield Charleston, 79 died on Monday, March 07, 2022, at Ohio Hospice of Dayton. She was born on November 23, 1942, in her grandmother Jessie Allison's house in Ottawa, Kansas. Charlie grew up in Ottawa and graduated from Ottawa High School. Shortly after high school graduation, Charlie moved to Xenia, Ohio where she married the late Charles Charleston, Sr. She worked for several years at Central State University, and she retired from Yellow Springs Instrument Co. After retirement she worked for Sears as an associate member, and ASC/PSI, as a department lead. Charlie was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Women’s Auxiliary Posts 517 and 776. Charlie’s love for sports and recreation included softball, bowling, crocheting, playing cards, and bingo. Charlie was preceded in death by her husband Charles Charleston Sr., her parents Carrie Logan, and Charles Wilson, both sets of grandparents, several aunts, and several uncles. Charlie leaves to cherish her memory: her children; Billie (Jonathan) Rivers of Houston TX, Pamela Howard of Crestview, FL, Rhonda Bryant of Midway Park, NC, Iva (Kenneth) Greene of Warner Robins, GA, Charles (Rita) Charleston Jr. of Xenia, OH, Frannita (Gerald) Porter of Xenia, OH, Kristie (Dante) Charleston-High of Xenia, OH, her sisters Joana (Jack) of Tecumseh, KS, Helen Banner of Dayton, Ohio, and Harriet Holt of Topeka, Kansas. Her 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Services for Charlie Charleston will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at United A.M.E. Church 286 E. Church St Xenia, Ohio. Visitations will be at 11:00 AM until time of service which will be at 12noon with Reverend Kevin J. Copper, Sr. officiating and Reverend Dr. John E. Freeman Eulogist. Social distancing protocol will be observerd, and face mask will be required. Arrangements entrusted to Porter-Qualls-Freeman Funeral.
