Irene Sellers Obituary

Irene Delores (Lucas) Sellers of Wilberforce, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 31, 2021, at 89 years of age. She was a patient of Hospice of Dayton residing at Harbor Chase of Beavercreek, Ohio. She was born on April 20, 1932, in Xenia, Ohio. She was the daughter of Alfred Nelson Lucas and Hattie Johnson Lucas. She took pride in her American Cherokee heritage and was known as "Wild Rose" She was a member of the Tansai Council and Faraway Cherokee. She enjoyed attending pow wows and taking cruises to many international destinations. Irene was baptized at Zion Baptist Church at the age of 13 She was very active in church activities to include the choir, Ever Ready Club president, and the Rayleen Gospel Singers. Mrs. Sellers worked at Central State University in the payroll and accounting dept. for 27 years, and enjoyed retirement following the many years of dedicated work serving Central State University and the greater Wilberforce and Xenia Ohio communities. She also was a member of the Eastern Star. She served as the first lady of Kiwanis International alongside her spouse, Walter G. Sellers, past president of Kiwanis International by serving others throughout the world, traveling to 7 continents and 37 countries. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter G. Sellers, son Paul Melvin and brother Master Sargent Henry Johnson Lucas, Green Beret Special Forces, granddaughter Shaneen Brooks, great-grandson Nathaniel Ohia Brooks. Irene Sellers is survived by her 2 children, Donald E. Darling, Jr. (Connie Schulze) Paulette Yvette (Darling) Brook’s (Nathaniel Brooks, Jr. MD) adopted daughter Mrs. Debbie Haithcock. Additionally, Mrs. Sellers is survived by her stepchildren, Ronald Sellers, Walter G. Sellers, III, and Victoria Williams. Grandchildren include Nathaniel Brooks III, (Amy Brooks) Tashaunda Irene Brooks (Eric O'Dwyer); and numerous nephews, special nephews, Alvin and Melvin Kendall, nieces, great-grandchildren, and many friends. She has one living sister-in-law Mrs. Ruth (Goodwyn) Lucas. Her best friend and longtime confident. Family members respectfully honor the wishes of Mrs. Irene Sellers' cremation.
