Susie Maxine Walker Betts, age of 100, departed this life on October 12, 2021. Sue was born in Barnesville, Ohio on October 1, 1921, and was the daughter of Ray Walker and Flora Cook Walker. After marrying her husband Richard D. Betts, the two made their home in Xenia. Sue was active in her church, United AME, and in the community. She held membership in the Ladies Aide at United, the 20th Century Club, and the Eastern Star-Chapter #2, where she was recently awarded her 50th-year pin as a member of Eastern Stars. Sue was an avid gardener and was often encouraged to show her roses in competitions. She also had a talent for making cakes and candies. Her yard was the perfect setting for community teas and luncheons and her presentation was outstanding. Sue retired after working many years at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard, sister Sarah Geraldine Walker Booker, brother Richard Walker and brother Raymond Walker, Jr. Surviving are her niece Karen Walker Ballard of Raleigh, NC, nephew Joseph Booker of Mt. Vernon, OH, and many cousins and friends. Her special Xenia friend and caregiver was Marsha Bayless. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, October 23 at 10:00 am at Valley View Memorial Gardens 170 North Valley Road., Xenia, Ohio. With Rev. Dr. John E. Freeman officiating. Arrangements entrusted to the Porter-Qualls-Freeman Funeral Home.
